Mother Africa, My inspiration.

I’m inspired by Africa, Every day I wake up, I look at myself and tell god thank you for creating me. Africa inspires me because my roots start there, that’s where I trace my heritage back to. That’s what I’m. My mother is an African-American and my dad is Sudanese. My mom being an American citizen and African American led to me learning more about the civil rights such as the “Black Panthers. “I have always been fascinated with activist and it just made perfect sense to know about the Black Panthers because I lived in Oakland, CA. My dad being an African made the icing on the cake extra wonderful. I say this for the reason being, I felt blessed to experience both sides of the African culture. I’m half Sudanese and half African American. My dad was born in Khartoum the capital of Sudan. I feel attached to my inspirations because the more I learn about Africa or myself I can relate and put the pieces to the puzzle together. I know I share this experience with several around the universe; these humans I share this ultimate experience with are on one accord with their internal mind. My inspiration rubs off on people I interact with on the daily basis. The people who know me best such as family members or friends say that they can see my love for Africa or my yearning to want to know more about Africa. This inspiration will last a life time, not only a moment, a moment would make is a powerful inspiration for me. Africa is what I come from and where I believe the first intellectual thought came from relating to my thoughts. This inspiration will last a life time. It drives me to experience, intellectual thoughts, and passion. My inspiration is Africa.

My Commuinty

The community I am apart of is called Leadership Excellence .It’s a non-profit organization that serves African American youth. Giving them the support of education, past history, social media, environment and everything else you can think of revolving around support. This community has given me hope, insight and plenty of education on myself and my heritage. They have served over 600 students in the last few years. I call this my community because the help I have received through the volunteers and mentors in the program. I have grown so much from spiritual to physical from all of the workshops they have taught. I am very thankful for a group setting of educators. I will start a non-profit organization which one day I hope the youth and adults will be able to speak on it such as an empire. For this is a Community I’m designated to.

Module one the "GOOD and the BAD"

The past seven weeks has been a remarkable journey.I have had challenges and lots of new learning opportunities.I learned alot about myself,from the way I communicate to the way i prep for a test the next day.A few positive attributes i gave to my community and myself were being organized,keeping a professional language,helping my colleagues, and never being late or missing any days during the seven weeks.I'm proud of myself for making all of these achievements and even more grateful for it being recognized by my community.I earned an Award for my Core Values.I will improve on my challenges such as taking the time to really study for a test,and if i don't understand it I will get seek some tutoring.I always look forward and thank th4e past for the present "SANKOFA"I will go forwards and never forget my past.

Despite the Hood

My neighborhood is an environment, where education is what you seek and crack is what you reap. I live on the borderline of west Oakland and north Oakland. The population is high scale with a lot of people who have been living in the community and a lot of new comers coming into the community. Most minority and low income. Public Assistance and social security is the income of most of the people in this community. I see a lot of environmental racism in West Oakland, On Mandela parkway there is a factory where cardboard boxes are being made for cereal ,now while your kids are getting up and ready for school eating there cereal, there inhaling the boxes being made for that cereal. This is not fair nor right to put a factory there because you know that the population in west Oakland is low income and can’t afford to live in middle class neighborhoods. I am who I am today despite me neighborhood.I  Am not a statics of the hood. I went to high school and graduated and am furthering my education. “This is the most rare saying in the ghetto”.From birth to now I lived in low income neighborhoods and have learned and witness it all with my two eyes, that the actions I see,I don’t want for me in my life.Iam glad I have lived in low income neighborhoods so that I can see the injustice government doing there cruel.From this I learned about instuition racism, environmental racism and gentrification. I will take this knowledge and apply to help my previous and present community To have justice and safe living for the future. Am glad for this experience of living in a neighborhood ewhere I could witness bad and good actions for this is who I become despite my neighborhood Keren Osman.

"The Poverty Business"

The “Poverty Business” means a lot compounded into one frame sentence. I feel  that  the companies who profit from low wage earners are contributing to the opportunity divide. They are making it severe  for anyone who doesn’t have the resources to get those sources that are limited. If they weren’t earning any type of profit from this poverty business then I would agree that this cause isn’t very effective. It puts several limitations on people of minority races. The opportunity Divide is a thin line between opportunity and limitations to those resources that you are able to obtain. The government is in charge for this cause because; they have the YES or No on anything that is affiliated with the citizens of America. We the people can change what steps we take to not get caught in the system trap as I like to refer to the “Deep hole six feet under.” I feel there should be no subject called credit, it’s all a way to eliminate you from the process of life. If you have Bad credit you can’t own a home, car, or even have an emergency income. The resources that need to be in place for citizens are more, advertisement on resources and knowledge on credit and all of the other government affiliated organizations participating with credit. Life wouldn’t have a Red line across it, If limitations weren’t just targeted towards people of poverty, then it would be fair but since the wealthy people aren’t targeted when they make a mistake with credit Its no justice serve for people who are born into the society of a crocked government system.

Personal Narrative

Have you ever met anyone who is so involved with life? Well, that’s me, Keren Nikol Osman. I’m very optimistic and treat life like a box of precious jewels. I was born and raised in an urban city San Francisco, California. I moved over 18 times and went to 13 different schools. Being 20 now, faced with all the life experiences that I’ ve been through, has given me the opportunity that I seek on the regular basis. I am very community oriented. I love non –profit organizations and I love humans who are all about a positive movement to better this planet. I love education. The work that it takes to receive knowledge is a powerful and  wonderful gift. I plan on furthering my education until I reach my Doctoral Degree. Right now in life, I’m at a settled but climatic peak. There is so much excitement to look forward to that I’m always standing on my toes. I have several of things that motivate me, from family, community, and even statistics that the media put out. I will continue to be driven with a passion for wanting to live and learn. My spirit once told me, “You have to be thankful for rain so that the plants which give us oxygen to breathe will keep giving us life .“This always be a part of my journey in life.

Current News Event

In today’s society the Government can kill you based off of evidence and a jury is used to decide the final case. Troy Davis was convicted for murder in 1989 for a killing an officer by the name of Mark MacPhail. There were seven witnesses and five of them said they witness this killing and two said that Troy confessed to them that he did this murder. He was convicted with murder, this case went on trial in 1991. September 21,2011 11:08 pm.(Et) Troy was dead by lethal ejection. The government had schedule to kill Troy Davis three previous times. There were so many people who were against this (manslaughter) and protested for this case. There also were people who wanted to feel justice and by that being they felt troy was guilty and that this  should be his punishment. I personally don’t agree with killing any one by lethal ejection rather they are innocent or guilty. Why should a jury or even pure evidence determine your death? I do feel if you are convicted of a crime or murder that you should due prison time, but to bluntly kill someone is not fair. The best thing in this case was to let Troy Davis live but have life in prison. I personally only know what the news and media tells me so I still have several questions on this case. I oppose this is not the last and there are several cases that will be just like this to come. As a human in this world my thought matters but my action is the impact and will help what matters. What I will do is get more involved and join the activist who are protesting for a good cause.
